In this episode of the MindShift Power Podcast, I, Fatima Bey, The MindShifter, had an engaging conversation with Lucille Esler, Miss Finger Lakes Teen 2024 and Miss Niagara's Teen 2025. Lucille, at just 14 years old, has already shown the world that beauty is more than skin deep. Through her community service initiative, she strives to make a significant impact by supporting autistic individuals and their families, inspired by her brother Teddy.
Lucille’s entry into the world of pageantry was driven by a profound personal mission – to support autistic individuals. Her brother Teddy, who has autism, became the core reason behind her choice. The Miss America Organization's community service initiative provided the perfect platform for Lucille to advocate for autism awareness and support.
Living with an autistic sibling is both challenging and rewarding. Teddy communicates mainly through body language and sometimes gets aggressive due to his inability to express his emotions verbally. Despite these challenges, Lucille remains steadfast in her mission. Her talks in schools, under the project "Life with The Adorable," have touched many lives, including a young girl who learned she was autistic after Lucille’s presentation.
Lucille’s efforts extend beyond just awareness. She actively participates in events like The Arc Lexington’s Rock for All Abilities concert, where she connects with autistic individuals and their families. Her initiative, “Support AUSOME People,” raises funds for organizations like The Arc Lexington that provide vital services to families like hers.
As Miss Niagara's Teen 2025, Lucille plans to expand her initiatives, including a sensory skate event that provides a comfortable environment for autistic kids to enjoy skating without overwhelming stimuli. Her future aspirations include competing in Miss New York's Teen and pursuing a career in radiology, inspired by her desire to help diagnose and understand medical conditions.
We all have unique gifts and platforms, whether it's beauty, intelligence, or the ability to connect with others. Lucille uses her platform in pageantry to advocate for a cause close to her heart. What gifts do you have, and how can you use them to make a difference? Remember, true beauty lies not in the face, but in the heart that beats for others.
